GRASSHOPPERS

Grasshoppers

2 - 3 years

Our Grasshoppers room aims to create a fun, relaxed and stimulating atmosphere with a familiar routine and structure to suit the children’s needs. Children within this age group are encouraged to develop their independence, whilst being closely supervised and supported to help themselves and make choices, helping them to become confident learners that are able to express themselves in their own way. The daily routine within the grasshoppers’ room is tailored around the children’s individual needs, Activities are planned to create a careful balance between stimulating discovery play, child initiated activities and adult led activities such as singing and imaginary play or messy play. Opportunities for exploring the outdoors are built into the daily routines with free-flow access to the garden, regular walks in the local community and weekly PE sessions with Yoga and music and movement with Tiny Mites Music sessions.

Tiny Mites music and movement offers a fun and interactive session for our babies incorporating music, objects, dance and exercise. Studies show music in the Early years is a vital part of developing listening skills, creates brain stimulation, social skills, an outlet for creativity and is mood changing.

Yoga is a weekly educational program with an outside company who come into the nursery and provide a sports session for all age groups, this alongside free-flow access into the garden ensures children are provided with plenty of opportunities to physical play and fresh air. We even ensure that our babies get lots of ‘tummy time’ inside and outside to develop their physical skills. Research indicates that regular physical activity in the early years provides immediate and long-term benefits for physical and psychological well-being. Regular physical activity is essential in developing motor skills, promoting healthy weight, bone development and enhances children’s social skills.

Our highly trained staff are on hand to support both parents and children when the time comes for your child to start potty training. We work closely with you and your child to ensure this is as smooth as possible so that continuity is maintained between nursery and home. We will always approach this in the most positive way.

Sleep time is also important for our grasshoppers to enable them to recharge their batteries ready for the rest of the day, we provide sleep mats for these children and each child will have their own bedding. The sleep area is a relaxing space with calm music played in the room. We know that each child is different and this will also mean that sleep times vary, although most of our grasshopper’s sleep after lunch there are occasions where a morning/late afternoon sleep is needed and this will always be accommodated to suit the child’s needs.
